May 2025 Testing Summary
Introduction
At Global ETS, we’re dedicated to helping companies protect their supply chains through expert testing and authentication of electronic components. Every month, we dig into the data from our lab to better understand what’s changing in the market - what’s working, what’s not, and if any risks are emerging. The numbers from May offer a look at the current state of component quality and give us some information about what’s happening across the industry.
Top Manufacturers Tested
In May, Analog Devices came out on top, making up 4.93% of all the components tested. Their products are used from industrial controls to medical devices, which makes them a commonly counterfeited part. Texas Instruments followed closely at 4.38%, while Altera stood at 4.25%, showing continued demand for PLDs. Notably, Xilinx has decreased from 4.50% in April to 2.74% in May.
Component Pass Rate
The overall pass rate in May was 93.83%. That’s a good improvement compared to April’s 92.26%, but it can always be better. The pass rate is a constant reminder that even if the supply chain improves, there’s no room to let your guard down. Our job at Global ETS is to catch these issues before they end up in a finished product.
Most Tested Device Types
FPGAs once again led the way, making up 5.87% of devices tested. Their versatility makes them essential, but it also makes them a bigger target for counterfeiting. Flash memory and MOSFETs each accounted for 4.23%, highlighting ongoing concerns around storage and power management components. Amplifiers came in at 3.68%, and connectors followed at 3% to round out the top five.
Testing Methods Used
Visual inspection has remained our most utilized test, at 18.67%, and is likely to stay at the top in the future. It’s a quick, effective, and low-cost way to spot suspicious markings or repackaged components. Electrical testing came in next at 17.98%, which is used verify that each part performs correctly at the marked specifications. Decapsulation (13.11%), XRF analysis (12.82%), and X-ray inspection (12.31%), which are all included in the AS6171 testing standard, conclude May’s top testing methods. These methods give us a deeper look into each part’s internal structure and materials to confirm authenticity.
Conclusion
At Global ETS, we believe that reliable data and reliable testing go hand in hand. The insights we gather each month are more than just numbers—they’re tools to help our partners make better decisions, avoid costly mistakes, and protect the integrity of their products.
